If I can find a good full electric car that’s at a good price, I’d get it. Does anyone know any cars or good websites that have sedan plug-in electric cars that cost pretty close to a gasoline car. I know that there is the Tesla Roadster and Chevy Volt, which are pretty cool. They’re pretty expensive though. Thanks.

Vince

KingJack asked:

Why won’t car manufacturers stop pretending that they can’t make all electric cars? I know it’s about money, but how much longer will we have to let them stick it too us at 3-6 bucks a gallon. We have prostectic arms, all kinds of new technology and they can’t make a simple electric car?
Jay P:
Is it easy? that’s variable. Can it be done and do they have they technology to do it? Yes,absolutely.

So far, major car companies seem unwilling or unable to manufacture 100% electric cars. While they have been dragging their feet, small companies like Tesla, Pheonix, and Zap have shown that electric cars are not only possible, but can potentially be viable, practical, and somewhat affordable alternatives to gas engine cars. Here are some examples:

Tesla Roadster — 2 seat sports car, 248hp, 0-60 4.0 seconds, 210 mile range, $98,000.
Zap-X — 5 passenger SUV, 644hp, 0-60 4.8 seconds, 350 miles range, 10 minute recharge, approx $60,000.
Pheonix SUT — sport utility truck, 90 MPH top speed, 0-60 10 seconds, 100 mile range, 10 minute recharge, price TBA.

The Tesla will be available this year, the other 2 could be available as early as next year.

As you can see, it is entirely possible to build an all electric car that will serve the needs of 95% of the population.
Jay: great reply,i’ll have to look into hydrogen cars.

Gage

Jae G asked:

The US can afford to subsidize entire industry farmers, airline bailouts, etc.

Wars that cos a billion a month, MSNBC said that their are 25 million cars on the road an electric car voucher say for $10-15K of a $20K electric plug in vehicle. The money comes from windfall profit taxes on the oil industry.

Automakers mandated to make the cars in the next 5 years…

This proposal, it’s super-simplified, I know…but is Zero Oil-as-FUEL dependence to radical in an oil soaked US Economy where congress is funded by the oil baron lobbyist that it won’t touch the subject seriouslyenough beyond talks?
Or Hydrogren Cars or Ethanol from cellulose
Socialist admittedly but then, alot of things that must be done to get this country on the right path would take forever with incentives, hoping the market responds rather than a short-term push in the right direction…mandates on businesses aren’t new in America and not necessarily socialist nor am i suggesting forcing anything on the people…offering them car vouchers? Come on let’s be sensible…
California mandates emmisson standards

The time has come to switch to electrci cars because gas prices have made it impossible to afford the same kind of living people have had 4 years ago.
And stop telling me about all this no electric cars available, electric cars not a good idea, drive slower, hey, gas is too high and it’s time for an alternative and deep down, you know it to. It’s time to drive something DIFFERENT, not DIFFERENTLY.
People have driven for many years now, it there was a super secret way of saving a **** load of gas money on the way they drive, they all would’ve done it by now, many years ago.
I refuse to put myself through this misery of high gas prices, I want to beat the system and laugh my head off at those oil companies while I save money with my new electric car.

Valeria
